I'm currently in the process of setting up a 1v1 ladder system that is fully automated by Statistics gathering.

For those not aware of a ladder competition check this
A ladder tournament (also known as a game ladder[citation needed]) is a form of tournament for games and sports. It is an extended tournament, which can potentially go on indefinitely. In a ladder tournament, players are listed as if on the rungs of a ladder. The objective for a player is to reach the highest rung of the ladder.[1] A ladder tournament is similar to a pyramid tournament, except that unlike a pyramid tournament, only one player can occupy any given rung and whom a player may challenge is not as tightly restricted as in the pyramid system.[2][3]
The tournament proceeds via a system of challenges. Any player can challenge a player above him or her on the ladder. If the lower-placed payer wins the match, then the two players swap places on the ladder. If the lower-placed player loses, then her or she may not challenge the same person again without challenging someone else first. Usually, there is a limit as to how many rungs above themselves players may challenge.[3][4] When first setting up a ladder tournament, usual practice is to place the more skilled players at the bottom of the ladder, so that they have to play to work their way up.[3]

However with every product one should think about it's customers before getting into the hard design. In this case HaloCE/PC players which are you guys.

So here is my question.
What would the ladder have to offer you in order to get you to play?
In other words if you were designing the ladder how would you like it to work? Based on challenging someone on a website and agree to a certain time to play or just play any random person in the server?
Anyone can challenge anyone? Keep also in mind what if someone fails to show up, how should this be handled?

Looking forward to your thoughts

it was something like you all started on 1000 points and you got 5 for the win -5 if you lose and 1 point if its a draw(we had one as well lol). if you beat some1 above you you took there points.i think thats how it was.

I basicly don't like 1v1 that much, because I play Halo for fun, and 1v1 are no fun imo ;)
It's more like a big battle from single people, not a team vs a team.

And we are no clan who is searching the best members

So if it was a team ladder you would be more interested?
As for the no clan/best member part it's a personal project not too much ® related. Just curious what it would need to get people playing who enjoy fun games.

From my experience ladders with a points system always are suboptimal.
You join the ladder, get raped by the top five teams/players, so they get their points, then you lose interest and soon after the ladder dies.
The system in the first post sounds interesting though.

I, personally, still wouldn't play in a 1v1 ladder because for me teamplay and character are more important than skill. And you usually don't find aforementioned perks in the combatants of a 1v1 ladder.
